Theo and the Sleepy Fox

10 chapters · bedtime story

Chapter 1: The Wide-Awake Fox

In a sleepy little village, where the rooftops were soft and round like loaves of bread, there lived a brave young fox named Theo. Theo was the bravest fox in the whole village. He could leap over the stream in one big jump. He could build tall towers out of mossy stone blocks, stacking them higher and higher. He could even do a quiet ninja roll across the grass without making a single sound. But tonight, Theo had a problem. A big, soft, fluffy problem. He simply could not fall asleep. He lay in his cozy den, wiggling his toes. He flipped one way. He flipped the other way. He counted bouncing basketballs as they thumped across his mind.

Not a template with a name dropped in

Most story apps swap in your child's name and call it personal. Hushwillow actually listens. Tell us they're into dinosaurs and a little shy about the dark, and you'll get a story that weaves in dinosaurs and gently steers clear of the dark. It grows with them, too: set their age, and the words, pace, and complexity grow up alongside them.

“His story naturally worked in ninjas and basketball — the two things he's obsessed with right now.” — Adam, Hushwillow's founder, on the first story he made for his own son.

You're holding the wand

Hushwillow is built so the grown-up stays in control and the kids enjoy the magic. You decide what stories can and can't include — and you can hear how things sound before your child ever does.

  • Block any words you want. Name what you never want to hear, and you never will.

  • Age appropriate. Stories match where your child actually is age-wise and can be recrafted as they grow.

  • Tell us what to tread carefully around. Fears, sensitivities, what makes them feel safe—we write with all of it in mind.

  • Dial the silliness up or down. Turn potty words on or off, and tell Hushwillow how to use nonsense words. No matter how silly you go, stories will always end calmly.

Every story is built to be gentle by design: no scary turns, no real peril, nothing that lingers at 2 a.m.

A story that helps them drift off

Plenty of apps are built to keep kids watching. Hushwillow is built to help them sleep. Every story starts with a little spark and then, whether it's 2 or 20 minutes, gently eases to a calm, cozy, reassuring ending. There's no autoplay, no next-episode hook, nothing designed to rile them up.

Screen-free where it matters most

Your child can use Hushwillow at the beginning of bedtime or earlier in the day to create their very own stories and send them straight to your Yoto. By lights out, the screens are away, and your child drifts off to sleep listening to a story made just for them. No glowing screen in a dark room. And when it's saved to a card, it's truly theirs to hold, replay, and love again and again.

Got a Toniebox? Your stories travel. Hushwillow's made for Yoto, but you can still manually export stories to put them on a Creative Tonie.

👋 I'm a parent who got tired helping my kid get tired

I built Hushwillow for my son. Bedtime with him is a highlight of my day, but I'd run dry on original stories, and he doesn't always want one of his other Yoto cards. So I made the thing I wanted: calming stories that actually star him, featuring his favorite things, that I control. Yoto stories are the last step in our bedtime routine, when the lights go out. If that sounds like the bedtime you want too, I'd love for you to be one of our first families. — Adam

We're onboarding our first founding families right now. That means you'll talk to a real person (me), and help shape what Hushwillow becomes.

Honest answers to fair questions

Do I need a Yoto?

It's best with one—that's the screen-free magic. No Yoto yet? You can still read stories together on distraction free screen, a sentence at a time.

Is it really safe?

That's the question I built all the controls around. Some you never have to worry about—like cuss words and slurs. You block any words you want and control the tone, and every story is gentle by design. See how it works ↑

Another subscription?

Fair. It's $4.99/month with no commitment—think of it as a membership in easier, better bedtimes, with stories you'll keep and enjoy again and again. See pricing ↓

What about AI getting it wrong?

Totally hear you, and it's the aspect I've tested the most—by far. No system is perfect, so you're always the final reviewer. You can preview anything before your child hears it, and flag anything that's off so I can fix it.
